What's the difference between online courses and the in-person course?
Our in-person and online courses deliver the same information. The difference is with the in-person course is students get the opportunity to practice hands-on skills.
If you have specific questions, are interested in getting guidance on the hands-on skills, or prefer to learn in a classroom setting, we recommend the in-person course. Please note that in-person learning may be limited due to ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you prefer to move at your own pace, don't mind online learning, or just prefer online courses, check out the online version!
Can I bring my pet?
Please refrain from bringing your pet to our classes. Our classes are for humans only, however you will leave class feeling confident about how to do an exam on your own pet! Check out our dog hiking seminar for a chance to bring your four-legged friends!
Where do you get your information & who verifies the certifications?
Our information is peer-reviewed and updated yearly by NVA veterinarians and taught by experienced instructors. Dr. Laura McLain DVM, our oversight veterinarian, has been working with family pets & working dogs for over 20 years. She was also a FEMA search & rescue veterinarian for over 10 years - deploying alongside our first responders in national emergencies to keep their search dogs healthy.
Our programs are modeled after the human world like EMTs or paramedics. We recommend refreshing your knowledge every two years to stay up to date.
